Top 10 Canadian Resort Hotels of 2017?

My, Canadians! This year's World's Best Resorts highlight the driving directions rugged coasts, huge ski runs, and untouched wildlife of the True North. Some well-known hotels, such the Wickaninnish Inn and the Post Luxury & Spa, reached the top five, while Canadian hotel chain Fairmont Hotels & Resorts had four locations in the top 10 list. The readers of Travel + Leisure are asked annually to express their thoughts on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more in the world by participating in our World's Best Awards poll. Hotel quality was assessed in terms of amenities, accessibility, customer service, dining options, and overall value.

Based on their proximity to cities and their availability of resort-style services, properties were labeled as either city or resort. Fogo Island Inn, a modern facility with only 29 rooms, all of which feature floor-to-ceiling windows and locally produced furniture, won the top award in 2017; the gold and silver winners from the previous year switched positions. One traveler to T+L gushed, "The beauty of Newfoundland, the isolation of Fogo Island, and unique architecture make this inn a really special destination." The next stop is the North Hatley settlement of Manoir Hovey, home to the grand 19th-century house Manoir Hovey, which overlooks Lake Massawippi. The home, which was modeled after Mount Vernon and is surrounded by 30 acres of woods and groomed gardens, is within two and a half hours of Quebec City, the best city in Canada in 2018.

Buttery foie gras and garden-fresh salads drizzled with local birch-tree syrup are just two examples of the meals that chef Francis Wolf prepares at Le Hatley. One may retire to one of the 37 plush rooms, many of which include fireplaces or private balconies, after a delicious meal. The Wickaninnish Inn, a 75-room establishment on the West Coast, made its usual presence. The rooms at this Vancouver Island hotel are like warm cocoons, complete with large soaking tubs, yet the floor-to-ceiling windows let the outside in. You may go for long walks on Chesterman Beach or stay in and read by the fire with a bottle of Pacific Pinot. The Four Seasons Resort Whistler, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, and the Fairmont Tremblant helped cross-country ski destinations do well. Below you'll find details on this year's Best in the World honorees.

The "Fogo Island Inn is beyond compare," as one T+L reader put it, is an understatement. Calling it a hotel seems inaccurate. For the simple reason that this modern hotel on Newfoundland's Fogo Island, with its 29 spacious rooms, is an integral part of the island's unique character. The inn's decor combines modern and traditional elements, with many of the furniture and fabrics (such as the wallpaper and hand-sewn blankets) being manufactured on the premises. Berry picking, guided treks through Fogo's natural beauty, fishing, and punt (a traditional boat) rowing are just a few of the many visitor activities that also serve to educate and celebrate the area's rich cultural heritage.
